First of all, arrays are listed as [6] and as having up to 8 sensors in them. So they TAKE 6 Capacity, but they can have up to 8 Sensors in them. This costs less Capacity than 8 separate Sensors so bonus. The Sensors all equal the rating of the Array. So a Rating 2 array contains up to 8 sensors of rating 2 each.

A drone comes with a default Sensor Array. The GM decides what sensors are reasonable on the factory package, though if you ask your contacts to get you a drone they may be able to influence the sensors. By default I'd assume 2 Cameras and an Omnidirectional Microphone, an Atmosphere Sensor and a Laser range finder. For some drones I'd find a Radio Signal Scanner and a Motion Sensor plausible too, and for a Roto-drone likely a third camera since it is moving around in 3 dimensions.

So while you may have at least some of the sensors of your choice installed, the factory likely does not produce the more exotic payload variations.

You can buy a better sensor array, assuming the Drone can get one. Drones tend to have a Rating 3 Array. Mediums have a maximum of 4, large drones 5, motorcycles 6, vehicles 7. So for example you could replace your Scorpion's Rating 2 Sensor Array with a Rating 6 max (at 6.000 nuyen cost for a Rating 6), replace your Ford Americar's Rating 1 with up to a rating 7, and replace your Steel Lynx's Rating 3 with a Rating 5 max.

One important thing is missing from the rules: Replacing/Improving Individual Sensors. For example, say I want to add Thermographic Vision* to my Drone's main camera (not the extra ones that simply prevent getting shot in the back). Can I just add this, should I buy a new camera as well, or buy an entire new array? What if I want to add a Smartlink** to it later? And what if I want to get rid of a single sensor in the array in return for a different one, can I buy a single new sensor or should I get the entire array replaced?

Personally as GM I lean towards "for cameras and microphones, you can simply add the new enhancement to it, and sensors you can simply replace if you buy a new one, though the rating MUST equal the Array's Rating". You may have to pay a mechanic some money for putting the stuff in though.

*: A MUST for combat Drones.
**: Hey, if the drone has a smartgun and a smartlink, there's no reason it wouldn't get the bonus. The only question is, can it get a +1 or a +2 wireless dicepool modifier? It didn't pay Essence for the Camera, but it did pay in Capacity, which is the sorta-equivalent for a Drone. Tough call for a GM to make.
