The Unified Earth Government traced its origins back to the Interplanetary War of the mid- to late-22nd Century in the Sol System. With numerous Earth governments fighting independent battles against Frieden and Koslovic forces, the United Nations became involved, eventually using the war to absorb most, if not all, Earth governments into itself to form a global government to combat the terrorists and stabilize the planet and its other world colonies. The UN won the war and the Unified Earth Government was formed, with its primary defense, scientific and exploratory force being the newly formed UNSC. Although the UEG seemed to have complete control over Earth and its colonies, the United Nations still existed as a political and military entity in the 26th century.

Colonial Administration Authority

The Colonial Administration Authority, abbreviated CAA, was an organization under the ultimate control of the Unified Earth Government. The CAA was an administration that likely helped the UEG govern the various colony worlds of humanity and kept extensive files on every colony, world, and city under its care. The document containing these files was referred to as the CAA Factbook. These files contained everything from topographic maps to the information on the materials the city sewer system was built from. The CAA provided this information to ONI special weapons teams upon request. It could be very helpful when defending colonies from Covenant attack.[1]
Over the course of the Human-Covenant War, the UNSC had largely taken over many of the responsibilities of other branches of the government. The CAA was described as "a little more resistant to the idea than the UEG and has subsequently been stripped of most of its power." It is therefore likely that it no longer exists in any functional capacity by 2552.[2]

The UNSC is the UEG's primary defense force, intended to protect innocent colonists and colony worlds from attack by privateers, Insurrectionists and other unknown threats at the time, such as the Covenant. It includes various special forces, and Militia organizations, but is mainly comprised of the Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Army. It is also the UEG's main exploratory and scientific arm.
As of at least 2552, the UNSC has assumed the governing function of the Unified Earth Government in the face of overwhelming Covenant incursions. It is not known whether the UEG is still present or, if it is, what its functions are

The UNSC Security Committee is a UNSC HIGHCOM committee based in Sydney, Australia that helps run the UNSC Defense Force. Their meeting room is at the bottom of the underground chamber of UNSC HighCom Facility Bravo-6 and contains a crescent-shaped table[2] behind double doors guarded by two battle-ready MPs.[3]

As of September 4th, 2552, here are the known members of the committee:

    * Chairman: Fleet Admiral Sir Terrence Hood,Chief of Naval Operations
    * Vice Chairman: Vice Admiral Danforth Whitcomb, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations
    * UNSC Marine Corps: Major General Nicolas Strauss
    * UNSC Military Intelligence Division: Colonel James Ackerson

There were also a number of other officers present at this time, presumably representing the UNSC Army and the UNSC Air Force.

The United Nations Space Command Defense Force (UNSC Defense Force or UNSCDF for short) is the defensive military force of the United Nations Space Command, consisting of the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, and Navy, which serve as a joint air, land, and space force.
The UNSC Defense Force was likely created during the Interplanetary War, once the structure of the UNSC was formed. As a result of the UNSC's complex command structure, the UNSCDF is assigned to serve a ground and aerial defense force. Before it was destroyed by the Covenant in 2552, Reach served as the dominant UNSCDF military base, with numerous shipyards and docking stations, barracks and training facilities, and twenty Orbital Defense Platforms. It is likely that the UNSCDF has elements stationed on other planets within the Solar System, besides Earth. Mars was one such colony that housed UNSCDF elements.

As the main military branch of the UNSC, the UNSCDF is comprised of three autonomous of semi-autonomous branches, each with different functions and methods, but all unified under one command, and tasked with the protection of humanity, and the protection and recapture of human-occupied colonies. Control is exercised through regional CENTCOMs, which have authority over certain areas of space.
