摩托车不只是世界各地的暴走族胯下隆隆咆哮的运载工具,对于那些需要在密集的城市环境中肆意奔驰、在宽阔的大路上急速追逐、或是冲入羊肠小道逃出生天的人们来说,摩托车同样表现优异。其中有些甚至能够用于日常活动!①对于那些与世隔绝的人,最好指出一件事:目前我们从摩托车中听到的声音都是人为制造的,因为电动机不产生噪音。但骑手们仍然想要他们那响亮的玩具。

A few years back, this radical new concept hit the mar-ket and became an overnight sensation … for about a week. That’s an exaggeration, but while the person-al mobility vehicle (PMV) market never made a huge boom, they found a niche to fill. PMVs are intended for one person, and as such they are great for transport-ing employees between work and home. The Horse-man has been one of the most successful due to its persistence. A few other models jumped on the band-wagon, but the Horseman jumped out ahead early and used that early success to lock its spot at the top of this small market. The Horseman is a three-wheeled, single-person vehicle powered by an electric motor, and it offers two modes of travel: road and walk. Road mode consists of stretching out flat like a motorcycle, with the driver lying on their back inside the little bub-ble-canopied pod. In this mode it’s barely taller than a motorcycle and is intended to zip through traffic like one. Walk mode moves the wheels closer together and brings the driver into an upright sitting position. When set like this, the Horseman is about the height of an average ork. This mode allows it to move along pedes-trian pathways, such as sidewalks and building lobbies, and it can even enter cargo elevators.

Such a small vehicle would often seem of limited use, but the Horseman has several add-on modules to expand its capabilities. These secondary vehicles plug into the rear of the PMV so as to not interfere with its ability to switch modes. The ModPods, as they’re called, make the Horseman unwieldy, but it’s not the most maneuverable to start. The ModPods include a passenger module that allows one additional passen-ger, a cargo module that allows extra space for gear and goodies that has about the same volume as a large trunk of a car, an advanced cargo module that has a pair of mechanical arms so the driver can interact with the outside world without leaving the vehicle, a drone module that comes with a small drone rack, and a se-curity module that offers a pop-up turret to chase off would-be attackers.

Riggers dig this vehicle for two big reasons. First off, they’re inconspicuous. They don’t look at all hostile and are usually associated with corporate wageslaves too scared to step foot in the real world. In the danger-ous world we live in, wageslaves have chosen, or been forced by their corporate masters, to travel between their homes and workplaces in a Horseman. To further protect them, the canopies are almost always mirrored to hide whoever is inside—or occasionally what is in-side, as some corps use these on autopilot to transport goods. Riggers like this because they can roll around in their Horseman looking like your average corporate Joe and run their drone network with less interference. Rea-son number two is the ability to stick someone or some-thing inside and roll it around, into, or through places without too many second glances.

The Terrier is an interesting twist on an old design. It’s basically two wheels, a place to stand, and a backrest. It’s awkward to drive when you first get on because leaning back makes you feel like you’re going to tip over, but once you’ve got the hang of it, these things are quite fun. The Terrier has no manual controls. Its predecessor, the PT2060, was the last model to still have a control bar in front rather than the backrest. Now it’s completely controlled via AR using either the onboard system with control glove and glasses or a datajack.

Riggers, as well as hackers and mages, have been known to use the Terrier to haul them around with their teams when they go shifting their consciousness to oth-er realities, because the gyro-stabilization system keeps the vehicle upright, and the pilot program is decent. With a little modification (i.e., a better sensor package), the Terrier also makes a decent and inconspicuous sensor platform for scoping out areas while looking like an upgraded pedestrian.

One of the great things about Horizon getting into the vehicle-building field is the crazy drek they come up with because function just isn’t enough. They need form in spades, and that’s what the Revolution offers. The Revolution is an enclosed monocycle that puts the driver inside the wheel. They rely totally on AR to see the road because physical view is blocked by the wheel, which is a giant smart tire ring around the rid-er. It comes with two rider options, Racer and Lounge. Racer seats the rider like a motorcycle, leaning forward, while Lounge has the rider lying back. The Lounge op-tion offers a secondary bit of safety in the form of an optional canopy and seat belt system.

This unique design is not where the rigger love comes from on the Revolution—that’s the accessories. As mentioned above, the Lounge seat can have a can-opy (though as a note, so can the Racer), but it’s not as comfortable, and that canopy is the first of the rig-ger-friendly upgrades because it closes off the rigger from the outside world and lets her operate the Rev-olution, or anything else running through her RCC, in full VR while protected from the elements, like raining lead. Optional sidecars are also available that allow for weapons, passengers, additional storage, or small drones. Thanks to the design, a sidecar can be added to each side of the vehicle. That’s actually the manufac-turer’s recommendation, though that might just be to sell more sidecars.

Whenever I see the Falcon, I think it was created by someone who loves snowmobiles but has an issue with skis. The Falcon-EX is a specialized off-road motorcycle intended for the most extreme environments. In place of wheels, the Falcon has a thick, flexible rubber tread that runs the entire length of the vehicle. This tread has a small air compartment inside for a little smoother ride and better traction, but for all intents and purposes it is a tankcycle. The Falcon-EX is the evolution of the Fal-con. The original cycle was multi-fuel, but this one is pure electric and offers a fold-out solar panel for re-charge on those trips that take you beyond its 800-kilo-meter range. Yes, 800! The battery is constantly being recharged by static created by the rubber tread. It’s an off-road master that can handle anything from snow to sand.

AR plus gyro stabilization equals no limits on how to design a motorcycle, and in this case we have another monocycle. This one has the wheel under the rider rath-er than around her, but it is still strange. The rider sits astride a single wheel with the balance aid of the gyro system. Once mass-market production of these became feasible and hipsters latched onto them, it didn’t take long for consumers to start snatching them up. The Cy-clops was a sporty alternative to the Papoose, and you weren’t riding around on something that was named for a baby carrier. It’s small enough to be stored easily af-ter the commute, and its electric drive even lets it run indoors for those too lazy to walk to their cubicle. This is not a combat vehicle, but it’s small enough to hide between some trashcans, and quick and maneuverable enough to make it handy in a getaway. The presence of the gyro system and a little added rigger kit can also make the Cyclops into an interesting little dronecycle.

This year’s Nightmare is aesthetically similar to last years inaugural design. Rider feedback has led to a few comfort and handling improvements, as well as a whole new AR and security suite available for this sophomore model. Riggers will love the built-in gyro stabilization (marketed for easy parking!), ample storage, extended range, and that aforementioned AR suite. 雅马哈·野太刀


尽管护手刺剑还在战斗摩托舞台中偶见使用,雅马哈·野太刀在赛道上正迅速成为最普遍的摩托。企业品牌忠诚度大概是唯一阻止它被几乎所有比赛者使用的因素了。野太刀是一辆野兽摩托,可以犁过一名全副武装的巨魔,如同他们是纸糊的一样。它在设计之初就考虑到了武器和装甲整合问题,野太刀让车迷们想起了早期的悍马H1,一款勉强在街头合法的战斗车辆。虽然雅马哈仍然声称这辆摩托为街头设计并为战斗摩托①改装,但是没有人买账。这辆野兽登上我的清单的原因是找到一辆带着中控器的比不带的更简单,愚昧野蛮的巨魔也能在大概六分钟内装上武器挂载位。同时它看起来总是致命的,所以很少吸引到比普通摩托更多的注意力。

While the Rapier still finds occasional use in combat biker arenas, the Yamaha Nodachi is fast becoming the most common bike on the circuit. Corporate brand loyalty is about the only thing that prevents it from being used by just about every player. The Nodachi is a beast of a bike that can plow through a fully armored troll like they were rice paper. Designed with arms and armor in-tegration in mind, the Nodachi reminds car buffs of the early Hummer H1, a combat vehicle made street-legal—barely. Though Yamaha still claims the bike was designed for the street and retrofitted for combat biker, no one buys it. This beast makes my list because it’s easier to find one with a control rig than without, the weapon mounts require about six minutes for a barrens-raised troll to install, and it always looks lethal so it rarely draws any more attention than regular bikes.

THUNDERCLOUD MUSTANG
雷云·野马


基于雷云的越野摩托斑马的设计,野马成为了斑马本应成为的混合地形怪兽。而斑马被誉为有能力穿越包括水域的任何地形,不过每当它冲上路面,你就会意识到那些庞大的充气轮胎可以浮在水面上并获得胶水般的牵引力,但它们也会像犬魔一样吼叫。为了解决这一问题,原来(斑马)的越野轮胎被替换成了会在越野时加宽以增加牵引力、在路面上缩窄以提高速度的智能轮胎。为了保证野马也有像斑马一样的水上操作能力,雷云为了浮力掏空了轮辋和框架,并增加了从框架下弹出的充气浮筒。所有的技术与优点令它成为了离线机师们的优良工作站。

Based on the designs of Thundercloud’s cross-country bike, the Pinto, the Mustang is the mixed terrain monster the Pinto should have been. While the Pinto was laud-ed as capable of traversing nearly any terrain, including water, whenever it hit pavement you realized that those big balloon tires may float on water and get traction like glue, but they also howl like a barghest. To combat this issue, the original off-road tires were replaced with smart tires that widen for traction off-road and narrow for speed on pavement. To keep the Mustang capable of the same limited aquatic operations as the Pinto, Thun-dercloud hollowed out the rims and frame for buoyancy and added inflatable pontoons that come out from under the frame. All the tech and goodies make this a great workstation for riggers off the grid.

野马的出口量近几年已经增长取代了老式的斑马,并压下了轨迹与它的暴走族坏小子印象,提升了雷云的品牌认可度。普韦布洛公司议会正与地平线合作开发野外道波版本的野马,它们即将发行而且会遍布媒体,以求将雷云打造成更好的品牌。

Exports of the Mustang have increased in recent years to replace aging Pintos and increase Thundercloud brand recognition beyond the Contrail and its bad-boy go-gang image. The Pueblo Corporate Council is working with Horizon to get better branding for Thundercloud with some wild Doble versions of the Mustang that will soon come out and get splattered all over the media.
