原型（Prototype）是半变形怪大法师雷（Ray）创造的第一个人形造物，雷的好友诗人埃里加戏谑地给他起了“马文（Marvin）”的昵称。
在刚被创造出来的几年里，马文一直跟随雷在各个世界间旅行，帮助大法师制造魔法物品。
在对抗地狱领主迪斯帕特入侵法兰尼斯的战役结束之后，雷带着储存他爱侣灵魂的银龙机兽去寻找不朽的奥秘，留下了马文在灰鹰城。
“去寻找你自己的生活吧！将来如果你明白了自己的梦想是什么，就到宇宙尽头的酒馆找我。”这是雷留给马文最后的话。
