So I want to fluff my games a little and get away from the dull standard jobs for my runners.

There was a german shadowrun novel which I've read years ago which revolved around a combat golfer. Now i want my players to be hired by such a combat golfer as golf caddies. But I need some creative thinking about obstacles.

Since i cant find the rules in english here's a quick and dirty translation of the rules in the german wiki: rules

It's basically a form of urban golf where you play in the middle of a crowded place like a shopping mall.

Gear

Golf balls with an RFID chip and a scanner to track your ball and the goalzone. Also up to 14 golf clubs.

Golf caddy

Each player is accompanied by a golf caddy who hauls the clubs, removes obstacles like security forces, critters and passerbys. There may be loan mages who deal with magical disturbances.

The game

Both players get informations about starting time and location. At the starting location and time both players get informations about the position of the goalzone which is marked by a small light and 10.8cm big (like a regular golf hole)

The goal is to get the ball as close as possible to the goalzone within a set timelimit. The player with the least strokes wins.

Extract from the rules (damn you, lazy authors)

Up to 14 clubs, no modification (shock dampener, smartgun, hydraulics). Cyberware and adept skills have to be announced beforehand

Ball is limited to 45.93 gram with at least 42.67 mm diameter. no full-steel. The ball is in game after the first stroke, even if it misses. It is not allowed to hurt or disable the other player. Chance is not an excuse.

If the ball comes to rest near an movable obstacle (stools, cigars, security personel, critter, ganger, etc), the obstacle may be removed by force by the caddy or the player himself (guns, golf clubs..) - also no external forces (screw you orbital cannon).

... Leaving the area is no time-out. If one of the players dies in the course of the game the other player still has to put the ball in the goalzone.

... If the ball is swallowed by a critter, the critter may be killed and dismembered to get the ball free. If the critter passes the goalzone with the ball in it's belly the point is not counted

... Whether the ball is unplayable or not is at the referees discretion. The player has to try to get the ball free with the given options. Usage of explosives is to be minimized. Winner is the player who at the end of the game is a) alive and b) used the least strokes to bring the ball into the goalzone / hole.

The best way to think about this is as a complete golf course. 18 holes.
The runners are hired to provide security for the golfer, because the tournament is kind of high stakes.
Pushing the envellope:
Offer the security team a portion of the wins as "payout". so, they have a vested interest in making it good and secure.
The problem: As a GM, get in, and provide a sufficient difficulty level for each ball, that is loosely linked.
Example storyline: A former professional combat golfer holds a combat golf tournament to take revenge on the people that wronged him.
Timeline: Every hole has a timeframe ( check in is one hour before strikeoff, equipment gets checked and registered, and recording equipment gets handed out. ) Then, 30 minutes before strikeoff, the balls get dropped, and at strikeoff, the goal is revealed. The hole has to be completed in one hour. In cae of a tie, the shortest time taken wins.
1.   The beginning is to warm up. A deserted street, 2 kilometers, into a deserted industrial area. Where a handfull of Chipheads are standing around the "goal", prodding it with care. How do the runners deal with the chipheads, that think the goal is an alien that fell from the sky, man? They may even have peed on it a bit...
2.   The second goal is the stuffer shack the combat golfer worked on, and that treated him horribly. Yes, that stuffer shack. from food fight. That is in the process of being robbed. have fun.
3.   The second goal is short and sweet. Inside the golf club where the combat golfer worked as a 14 year old. it is a normal hole on the green. To be played while an official golf tournament is going on. How do the playrs react when they have to be professional? For added funsies, a tournament of retirees is on the way. The average is over 60, non cybered, and white and male. Have I mentioned human only? Have fun blending in.
4.   The fourth hole is the first where they get real oppoition. It is to be shot in an in door mall. The golfer worked there as a student, and was horribly misstreated in the food court. Thus, at high time, strike the ball in a hole that is in the fryer in the local fast food joint.
5.   A long haul. The fifth hole is a wilderness trap. 5 kilometers through a wooded area, that happens to belong to SK. It is a place where SAK leaves corpses out, exposed to the elements, to study their decay. Today, a new group of police recruits gets ferried through the complex to recieve some education on how corpses decompose. Which group can stay hidden the longest?
6.   Back on the road. Take a ong hard look at major roadways near the area. There is a truckstop, right? With a busload of seniors from japan waiting? guess what the quickest way to the truck stop down the roadway is? It is encouraged for better results, especcially stated by the organisator. the only problem? For N number of golfers, there are N-1 numbers of busses. have fun... Every dead bystander is an extra stroke.
7.   Friday night. Simple enough, right? 1 kilometer through a slum area, target is a concrete basket.... which is where the local go gangers defend their turf against an enemy gang.
8.   saturday morning.... The start and the target are in a local church. the only problem? If anyone takes notice, or service is interrupted, the hole is lost for everyone inside the curch.
9.   Sunday mid day. The start and the end are in a local zoo. Halfway through the match, a local cell of eco terrorists releases a few dozend critters from the park. To show the families that enjoy this that these animals do not deserve t be locked up, man.... add some paracritters and some awakened ones for extra fun.
10.   The start is in the local harbor. The target... underwater. Near the hideout of an aquatic critter. Think an e-kraken. That is breeding, and thinks the ball looks just like one of its eggs. Have fun.
11.   The start is in the canalisation. The target has been set up, and the guy who set it up gets killed by a few ghouls, that were on the way back from killing a maintennance crew. Which prompts the city to send in an anti ghoul squad. Hopefull, the runners can not be taken for ghouls.
12.   Extra fun time. Playing through a party area, that is relatively deserted, because every local sports fan hangs in front of the trid, because of the big local match.... Two local clubs, squaring off against each other. Except the game is rigged. can the golfers play during a full on riot? If they play too early, they will get the full force of the riot. Too late, and they get riot police to appear
13.   The hole is in a privately owned park. privately owned. By a city officcial... that allows the local cops for free to use the woods to train their K9 areas. On other cops, dressed up as shadowrunners. For funsies, throw in a few rare awakened plants, and a few spirits, to "keep the young bloods on their toes. ".
14.   The local Norse asatru, a group of wiccans that is very close to the norse pantheon, hold their annual gathering in the outskirts of the town, and their high ritual..... when they get into a party rage, they discover the strange marking device in their ceremonial cup. Then the runners show up. The asatru are OK with this. all they want is a fistfight. Non lethal, and the winner gets to decide if the ball gets dropped. They are in on the game, and see it as a religious cermony.
15.   Back into the city it is. This time, a new art gallery opens up, to display pottery. Guess where the goal is?
16.   On board of the local bullet train, or very fast train, they discover that all the guests leave at one station. Their passes have been cancelled. the goal is at the other end of the train. while it moves with more then 100 km/h. How do they fare against their competitors?
17.   A monster truck event. with a demolition derby going off during it. Guess where the hole is? That's right, in the trunk of one of the cars. How well can they hit a moving target?
18.   The Last hole is on top of the penthouse of the most expensive hotel. during an officcial recception, held by a megacorp. Can they mingle?
